Tour of the Site

We welcome you to become a frequent visitor to Land For The People, and join our community so that you might help shape our vision. The front page of the website will highlight interesting and current features, including ideas contributed by you. The About section will tell you about the vision and people behind Land For The People.

A very important feature of the site is to encourage you to conserve land now by donating to our partner, Trust For Public Lands. We encourage you to use the link on our website so that we can tally the funds raised through our work and report back to you our progress. Help us grow the funds we donate! Co-founder of this site, Debi Slatkin, researched land trusts to find one that puts the most funds into its preservation programs. She began donating to TPL in 2005 and continues to be impressed with the activities of TPL, the collaborative efforts in which they are engaged, their commitment to turning land ownership back to the public (they do not retain ownership of the land they help preserve) and the breadth of their response to conservation. Land For The People does not take any portion of the monies you donate to TPL—we host and donate this site as a public service and look forward to being able to report back to you that we’ve raised thousands—and eventually millions—of dollars through this effort.

In addition to the link to Conserve Land Now, which will help you donate funds directly to our land trust partner, you will find links to other land trusts and conservancies on our Resources page. We hope you will maximize your contribution to a large and reputable trust, and also join and support your local conservancy or trust. In the Resources section you will find links to other eco resources and we invite your suggestions for links as well. If you represent a like-minded organization, please provide a link to our site from your website.

The Blog is designed to provide useful information as well as thoughts and ideas that are relevant to the site. In addition to Bri’s regular blog articles, watch for guest bloggers to share their musings. Here, too, we welcome your feedback about whose writing you would like to read: people who are known for their involvement in environmental work, policymaking . . . or even the entertainment industry. You can post comments to each blog entry as well.

The Forum will enable you to inspire others through your posts. Please join our community so that you will be an active partner in this work. We look forward to reading your comments and ideas, and will feature some contributions on our front page. Soon we will organize a way for you to share short video documentaries about land you want to preserve and your ideas for action.
